  • Estimates

Please call or email for estimates. The more information you provide the better.

Although I have a notional day rate, I price my services to match the requirements of the job, so I will need to have a detailed understanding of your requirements before providing an estimate

Some of the information I need is as follows

Description of the building or structure
    Location/address details of structure
Existing site images you may already have
What your expected usage is, media and size required

Once you have received a formal estimate and agreed to go ahead a formal booking is made for the job.

    Digital or film

Digital is now a real option for some professional architectural photography, though I still prefer to use 5x4 film for the ultimate in quality where it is required.

In general I advise using digital for editorial purposes and film where large scale display is required

There is little cost advantage to choosing digital over film. The reason for this is that although film is expensive to process, there is also post production required on digital files. The cost of this is roughly the same as for film processing. In addition the extremely high capital costs of professional digital cameras means that these costs have to be factored somewhere into pricing. The digital SLR body I use costs £5000, whereas my expensive and exotic (handmade from ebony and titanium) 5x4 camera cost 'only' £1,650!

The main reasons why I use digital equipment are speed and certain aspects where quality is better than film. This is especially the case with interiors where using digital cameras means that much less lighting needs to be used to achieve the same effects. There is also a strong convenience effect as clients often prefer to receive digital files and hence using a digital camera removes the step of scanning film.

    Delivery of images

As well as offering traditional methods. I can deliver work electronically via an online system which enables my clients to sort and edit images using a web browser, then downloading the ones they need. This is a lot faster and more reliable than mailing out CD's or DVD's.
