• About this blog

In my blog I share my work and my experiences as a professional architectural and interiors photographer, as well as considering both the aesthetics, business and techniques of architectural photography. I want to further the appreciation of representing architecture and related concepts for both those seeking to practice architectural photography as a profession, and for architects looking to record and represent their own work more effectively whether on line or in prints.

Leadenhall Street

Leadenhall Street

A fascinating occurence this, its a building where they have removed all the lower stories in order to rebuild. I think there might be an impressive atrium when they have finished. I had two jobs moved this week in one case because of the bad weather, and in the other because of a change in [...]

Is it all wide angles?

Is it all wide angles?

Aaron Hibbert sent me an email in which he asked me the following…
“I really want to do interiors also. Is it all wide angle lenses?”
In the interest of internet sharing, I decided to answer him on this blog, hope you don’t mind Aaron…
The question of wide angles in interiors, or for that matter architectural photographs [...]

Get a lift

Get a lift

Sometimes its a good idea to get some extra height, many buildings look better photographed from a slightly higher vantage point, usually I can achieve this with a high tripod and a step ladder. We recently hired a Snorkel Scissor Lift to photograph a farm complex along with its farm machinery. Our client needed us [...]

Get a lift #3

The platform is large enough to accommodate 3 people, the camera and a laptop on a stand. I found that it was better if I was alone if I wanted to cancel out the vibrations. The slightest movement set the platform swaying when it was at 6m height.

National Space Centre, Leicester

National Space Centre, Leicester

This is something I shot for personal interest and for stock usage last year. A fascinating structure which to my mind is more interesting than what it contains. (Remnants of Britain’s space program count too many damp squibs amongst them for my taste. Blue Streak sits uncomfortably close to Beagle II). One thing [...]

Contemporary School

Contemporary School

This shot is from another recent shoot for CTM Architects of a business education centre recently constructed for a secondary school in Kent.
The building abuts a sharp incline and a bridge is used on the upper story to link the new building into the rest of the school site. This interior shot shows the upper [...]

Aspirational Interior

Aspirational Interior

This interior is from a job I shot for CTM Architects. The property is located on the South Coast of the UK.
Its an example for me of the power of supermodels.
While I can take credit for the composition, the technique, the lighting and the retouching… it’s really the combination of the architects design, the site [...]
